Do you ever feel thirsty or dehydrated even after drinking a substantial amount of water? This is fairly common and is one of the common signs of dehydration. A person feels dehydrated when the body does not get enough water. The human body needs water to perform several vital functions such as breathing, digesting food and flushing out toxins.

Insight 1: What is dehydration?

Dehydration is defined as “the condition caused by the loss of too much fluid from the body”. One can feel dehydrated because of a host of reasons, including

  • Not drinking enough water

It can lead to loss of stamina and strength. If too much water is lost from the body, the organs, tissues and cells may fail to function as they should, leading to dangerous complications.

Insight 4: How to keep yourself hydrated?

Water is the healthiest choice when it comes to reversing dehydration. Clean water is healthy as it is free from harmful chemicals. However, you can also have other beverages and fruits that are high in fluids.

Here are a few tips to keep yourself hydrated:

  • Introduce drinking more water to your routine. Spread out your water consumption throughout the day to stay fully hydrated.
  • Add flavour to your plain water. For instance, you can add cut fruits to your water for some flavour.
  • Eat water-rich food. Certain vegetables and fruits contain high amounts of water along with healthy nutrients. For instance, watermelon, peaches and strawberries have high water content.
  • Avoid going out when it is too hot. Stay indoors if the weather is too hot. Avoid sun exposure between 10 am to 2 pm, the sun rays are stronger in this period.
